Coraline is a masterfully made film, an amazing piece of art that i would never ever ever show to a child oh my god are you kidding me

Nothing wrong with a good dose of sheer terror at a young age

“It was a story, I learned when people began to read it, that children experienced as an adventure, but which gave adults nightmares. It’s the strangest book I’ve written”

-Neil Gaiman on Coraline

@nightlovechild

This is a legit psychology phenomenon tho like there’s a stop motion version of Alice and Wonderland that adults find viscerally horrifying, but children think is nbd. It’s like in that ‘toy story’ period of development kids are all kind of high key convinced that their stuffed animals lead secret lives when they’re not looking and that they’re sleeping on top of a child-eating monster every night so they see a movie like Coraline and are just like “Ah, yes. A validation of my normal everyday worldview. Same thing happened to me last Tuesday night. I told mommy and she just smiled and nodded.”

Stephen King had this whole spiel i found really interesting about this phenomenon about how kids have like their own culture and their own literally a different way of viewing and interpreting the world with its own rules that’s like secret and removed from adult culture and that you just kinda forget ever existed as you grow up it’s apparently why he writes about kids so much

An open-ended puzzle often gives parents math anxiety while their kids just happily play with it, explore, and learn. I’ve seen it so many times in math circles. We warn folks about it.

Neil Gaiman also said that the difference in reactions stems from the fact in “Coraline” adults see a child in danger - while children see themselves facing danger and winning

Well shit. I show my 8 year old niece the movie and she love it despite it being scary for her. Haha.

I’ve removed my 100 Palette Challenge due to constant harassment

virize:

Well, it was a long time coming but over the past few weeks I’ve been receiving a constant stream of messages stating that I “stole” Adobe’s content (ie. their colour palettes and schemes on Adobe Kuler/Adobe Color CC) and that I should remove my 100 Palette Challenge. Long story short, each time I respond with the reasoning the palettes in my image are all sourced and are Free Use provided that credit is given, all I get in response is “take down the colours and art you stole, you art thief!” Fun. Really? You’re calling me an art thief? Someone who has written academic papers about copyright law and abhors art theft? Please. Make me laugh more.

Anyway, more details under the cut. It’s a long read, but justifies why I made the decision to remove something that a lot of people liked, have participated in, and even created a version of themselves!

y’all: bisexuals are fake bc they usually end up in m/f relationships

me, an intellectual: it’s easier and statistically more likely to find a straight person who is attracted to you and compatible with you than to find a lgb+ person who is, especially in small towns. not to mention the fact that a big part of lg community won’t date us, because they are biphobic. also a huge number of bis are nb, so m/f rhetoric doesn’t even fit us. also. there is nothing wrong with bis being in a m/f relationship if it’s healthy. also. stop being biphobic it’s 2017 when will this stop

A-fucking-men

Also, some of us have polyamorous relationships with people of multiple genders. This is not the same as being a treacherous bisexual. It’s being in consensual relationships with more than one person.

being in a fandom for more than a few years is kind of a surreal experience, honestly. you see fanart that you’ve sent in texts years ago, you see posts that you qualify now as ‘classics’ because of how old they are, you see people getting excited over new information that, honestly, you’ve known for a long while… you see one of those same-old same-old arguments bubbling up between people in the fandom and you just think to yourself “oh not again”, and then you lean back in your rocking chair, watching from the sidelines like your joints ache too much from all the battles of your past. a fuckin fandom grandparent. someone get me some applesauce

windows 10 is garbage so every time i boot up the computer i have to run command prompt and enter

net.exe stop “Windows Search”

so that the shitty goddamned search/cortana feature that i never fucking use stops running in the background taking up all my fucking disk space

before

after

what the fuck is that seriously what the fuck is making my computer be a fucking piece of shit

@baristaboy try this out dude

@lambylin

y’all didn’t even add a tutorial of how to do this so imma put one right here

1. type in cmd.exe into your windows search and right click on Command Promt search result and select “Run as Administator”.
2. Type/Copypase in  net.exe stop “Windows Search” and make sure Windows Search is in quotations. It should then respond saying “The Windows Search service is stopping” and then tell you it’s stopped.

This is only a temp fix though, if you want it switched off permanently then do THIS:

1.  Press the Windows key + R at the same time and type in services.msc.
2.  Scroll until you find Windows Search and double click it to enter its Properties window.
3.  Change the Startup type to Disabled. Apply this change and you can exit out.

VOILA, NO MORE TAKEN UP DISK SPACE

Reblog to save a life

HOLY SHIT IT WORKS

My computer is brand fucking new and I couldn’t figure out WTF its deal was! Thank you!

Another thing, since this helps out with generally your whole computer, and worked for me when my disk would be like 100% or so too (before I saw this post)

DL CCleaner and run the cleaner on your comp, as going to Registry > Scan for Issues > Fix selected issues

CCleaner is great for helping your computer run faster, at least, it’s always worked for me and solved that 100% disk space. Maybe it’ll work out for someone else as well.
