Hope you don’t mind a public answer, it just so happens i almost always save back ups of my art for my own reference, so all these were in my psd which would probably answer your question better than text alone!
As you can see my second step from a rough sketch is to roughly nail down the anatomy because he has a lot of flowing clothing that can mask things. That’s generally about as far as i go, it’s very quick to make sure nothing is dislocated and rough out areas that might be exposed (Chest), and any actual skin tight areas are correct (sleeves).

Then from there it goes as one would expect, sometimes parts are cut out to clarify. I redrew a cleaned naked arm to make sure it was correct before putting the arm guards in etc.
If you compare the naked version which was painted AFTER eveyrthing was finished you’ll notice it doesn’t quite line up with the rough anatomy sketch but thats because it was just that: rough O:

I just came across this software that might be useful for artists; with the free demo, you can quickly create and modify a wide variety of 3D faces that can be viewed at any angle, which can come in super handy for reference or as a base to build up a painting. It’s not super fancy, but it’s enough to work with as a starting point when you need a tricky to find angle. :)
Yo this is so perfect I’m going to conquer my favorite yet most frustrating angle. It’s basic only in the sense that it’s not going to paint and stylize for you, but it even lets you customize the precise lighting, emotions and individual facial movements to give a really really good base for different ethnicities / expressions and very challenging angles.
