My roommate from Beijing is fascinated by English expletives and is asking about the most offensive terms we have. I tried to explain the difference between insulting swear words and offensive slurs, and he was delighted by ‘asshole’, ‘motherfucker’, ‘bastard’, ‘dickhead’, and ‘shithead’. Explaining slurs without using any proved to be difficult, as he just tried to insult me by saying, “You are a big slur!”

I told him that he can combine different words to make new ones and he just pointed at me and said, “Fuck you, you son of shit-sucker! You loser!”

“In China, we say ‘fuck your mom, fuck your ancestors, fuck your parents, fuck everyone… but we don’t say ‘fuck yourself’. I love that! In America, you can fuck anyone, even yourself!”

Roommate: “What are bollocks?”
Me: “That’s not a word we really use in America, but it means testicles.”
Roommate: “What is that?”
Me: [makes cupping motion with hands] “You know… balls. Cojones. Your nuts.”
Roommate: “I don’t understand.”
Me: “Uh…” [helplessly cycling through different physical gestures and words he might understand]
Roommate: [stares at me blankly]
Me: “They’re like… a dick’s little brothers.”
Roommate: “OH! I GET IT NOW!”

there is something hilarious about being told to “fuck away!” by an angry person

“In America, you can fuck anyone, even yourself!”

Why Stealing Patterns is Like Killing the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs:

beezeeart:

So, real talk for a moment, I came across this article on my Facebook feed today and as a pattern creator, it really struck a cord with me. Though I sell stuffed animal patterns and not quilting patterns, the concept is the same.

There’s a lot of theft in the art world in general and every time someone re-distributes one of my patterns illegally, or tells me they eyeballed my design in stead of buying the pattern, or claims my design as their own, or steals my photos to sell their own products, I have a heavy sigh and think, “Here we go again.” Somewhere between messaging them or sending a take down notice  and venting on my personal facebook, I seriously question whether I want to keep creating or just quit and get myself a nice 9-5. Maybe go back to finish my Zoology degree. Become a professional dog petter.

Though I have no real plans to quit, someone out there has faced this same situation and decided that the stress just isn’t worth it anymore.

Is there a solution? I’m not sure, but here’s what Hunter’s Design Studio recommends:

I think that all sounds like a good start.

lothlenan:

Even before doing my previous Zelda painting, I already knew that I wanted to do this. It’s themed Ocarina of Time, however there are one or two easter eggs hanging around.  ;)

I struggle to paint architecture, and if you haven’t noticed pretty much all my previous paintings have been based in nature. Couldn’t avoid it this time, so I  learned a few things!

Based on Edmund Leighton’s painting ‘Godspeed’ (1900).

do y'all remember in sharkboy and lavagirl (aka the greatest cinematic masterpiece of our time) how lavagirl had that realization towards the end and was all like “omg i’m not fire, i’m light” or whatever the hell, i think we all need that level of self positivity in 2017 tbh lavagirl is the icon we’ve all slept on for the last 12 years

do u ever start to dislike a character for no reason other than the fandom loves them so much it annoys u

and on the flipside: do you ever start to like a character just because the fandom is so vocal about hating them that you want to like them out of spite
