i mean we could talk about how lilith was a badass who’d rather be a demon than be subservient to a man or we could talk about the allegory here where a woman who demands agency is LITERALLY demonized… or the reality that this story means that the first man in the bible (or the first man ever, if you subscribe to that) was a rapist! great start, boys

I wonder how different shit would be if Adam attempting to rape Lilith was the “original sin” instead of Eve eating the apple.
Every time I see this on my dash, I have to comment. Let’s get some things in this post straight, shall we?
- This is NOT a biblical story. At best, it is Jewish mythology. The reason why nobody talks about this is not because of misogyny, but because Lilith’s story isn’t in the bible. The first instance of Lilith being Adam’s first wife appeared in The Alphabet of Ben Sira, written thousands of years after the Old Testament, and is widely believed to be a work of satire.
- Saying that Adam is a rapist because of Lilith’s story is just like saying that Harry Potter is a rapist because he was a rapist in a fanfiction.
- Lilith isn’t exactly some pure angel whose only crime was refusing to be subservient to Adam. She was kind of fucked up, actually. There’s a reason she’s the demon of miscarriage and sick infants. If you read more about her story, you’ll find out that in exchange for the death of 100 of her demon offspring every day, she agreed to personally kill off 100 human babies each and every day.
Please, please, please know the real story and not some twisted version of it.
