The Red Cross has started an emergency appeal for help. To donate $5 by phone, text REDCROSS to 30333. Text FIRES to 45678 to donate $10. Both the federal and provincial governments will match donations to the Red Cross.
The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is accepting donations through PayPal on its website.
The Salvation Army is also collecting financial donations online.
Emergency shelter:
Airbnb has activated its Disaster Response Tool to help provide free shelter until May 21. Residents in nearby areas can list their properties on the website.
Those able to provide accommodations can also sign up on website YMMfire.ca.
Displaced pets:
The Fort McMurray SPCA is working to reunite displaced residents with pets they were forced to leave behind. They are accepting donations to help efforts.
The Edmonton Humane Society is preparing to accept animals left without owners, and provide temporary shelter to pets with owners who have left their homes.
Social media efforts:
Facebook group Fort Mac Fire Donations is crowdsourcing donations for items such as toiletries, socks and pillows, as needed.
On Twitter, people are offering help through hashtags such as #ymmfire and #ymmhelps
Hi. My computer of six years finally died, and that’s sad. Digital art was my way of making a living, and all of my other business are also online. I don’t have a computer of my own, nor the means to afford one any time soon! I’m currently borrowing a laptop. If 300 people donated ONE DOLLAR to my paypal, I could afford to get a new one!

I finally made an APH face generator~ Now you can mix different characters for fun!
The current available characters for now are the Axis and Allied characters (Though I still haven’t added Canada yet but He’ll be second batch along with Romano, Prussia and Spain).
Before we can talk about enrichment, it’s worth thinking about why it’s so vital.
So:
You’re in a
room. It’s big enough for a bed – it’s nothing special, and for whatever
reason, there’s no pillow – and there’s a little space to pace back and forth.
There’s always water available, and 95% of the time, food comes exactly when
you need it. If you get sick, bam. Suddenly, you’re sorted.
That’s it.
That’s your life. (There’s somewhere to go to the bathroom, but let’s skip over
that.) Day light comes and goes, it’s never too warm or too cold, and there’s somewhere to sleep away the nothing. That’s it. You’re safe. You’re physically
healthy and well-fed. You’re going to live a long, long life.
Is this
enough? Can anyone honestly say they’d be happy with no options available to
them, with nothing more engaging to do than stare at the ceiling?
Let’s improve
things. A bookcase turns up, stacked full of dozens of novels, and suddenly,
there are bright, cheery potted plants on your windowsill. The next day, there
are not only pillows on your bed, but cushions too. You go to sleep, and in the
morning, a wall’s been knocked through: your room is twice the size!
Even better,
there’s a laptop on the floor and the wifi never loses connection. After a few
days of binging the latest season of Hit Television Show, you realise that
there’s another door there, leading out into a garden. Whoa! Now we’re getting
somewhere. Now there’s more to do than stare at the ceiling. You’re starting
to have choices.
And that’s
what this is all about: letting snakes make a choice about what they get up to.
“Enrichment is a dynamic process for
enhancing animal environments within the context of the animal’s behavioural
biology and natural history. Environmental changes are made with the goal of
increasing the animal’s behavioural choices and
drawing out their species-appropriate behaviours, thus enhancing animal
welfare.” (Association

By giving your
snakes these choices through enrichment, you’ll be providing them with all
manner of benefits: reduced stress levels, increased activity – more exercise means stronger muscles and healthier
snakes – as well as improved cognitive functions and neural development! In the
next issues of the TTP, we’ll start
breaking enrichment down into bite-sized pieces. Er, perhaps not a python’s
idea of bite-sized, though!
