The main ‘argument’ of the new KPOP fans to disrespect TVXQ - and Super Junior - is calling them old. First of all, they are not old, even if they were, there is nothing wrong with that, if you think being older is something to be ashamed of you have a sad existence since you don’t respect older people and I wonder if you want to get old one day.
Since their debut, december, 2003, they sang an amazing variety of musical genres proving they immeasurable talent, and I don’t mean only the group itself, but each member individually. They can sing and dance at the same time without messing their tuning no matter how complicated the coreo is. Plus, they all have been working their own music, as composers, lyricists, arranging and directing some of their own shows and albums (in the case of JYJ, most of their works).
They did not build their talent only in music but also in the performing arts, performing in musicals, dramas and movies.
They received dozens of awards and artistic recognition in Asia especially in Korea and Japan as great singers, composers, lyricists, actors, but also because they are so attached to humanitarian causes, actively participating in philanthropic projects.
They are widely respected for being kind, respectful and work so hard, without ever lacking. They are known for being humble and never taking their fame for granted. Most of the new idols look up to them and TVXQ/JYJ’s idols also admires and respects them as the great artists they are.
They are older than the new idols, since their are men, not teenagers anymore, but that just means they have the experience, the wisdom to maintain an unshakable reputation after all these years, and that’s sweetie is a reason to be proud of them, as their loyal fan.
You may think calling them old is a offense, don’t mind they look better, more healthy and stronger than the nowadays idols, specially they are in the army and police now (Junsu will be joining soon), but really, you can’t question the respect and admiration they got for their hard work, personality and dedication towards their fans and the korean music industry.
Thank you for this post because I still can’t fathom how people just do this so often. I think it’s so disrespectful to ignore the success and achievements of older groups because they literally laid the foundation for new groups, ideas, concepts, talent, etc. to come into existence. Most are still active and/or trying to become active because they love what they do, love their fans, and work fucking hard. To take it even further, all of these Korean artists we love and listen to were inspired by other forms of music from their past and during their time, looking toward musical influences that span across the globe.
I got into the K-Pop scene around 2007-08, and I really respected TVXQ, Epik High, and Super Junior. But just because I got into K-Pop during that time, doesn’t mean I’m going to bash groups like Seo Taiji and Boys, H.O.T., Sechs Kies, SES, etc., who completely changed the Korean Music Industry, or all those ballad singers, djs, etc. who got their inspiration from people around the world. That would be like telling my mom she’s too old and she never accomplished anything when she’s the one who sacrificed so much for me to have a better fucking life. LOL. That may seem like a silly metaphor, but my goodness. I love current groups that have come out and I respect all existing groups’ histories and accomplishments. I don’t understand how people can ignore history and just respect whatever is part of their own time. It’s fucking hilarious when I see people comment on a group’s song that came out in recent years, but then bash other groups that were formed during the same time they were. I just can’t even. For example, I’ve seen people comment on TVXQ, Big Bang, SHINee, Super Junior, and then bash each other without knowing SHIT.
They need to sit the fuck down and not only pay attention to what all these various artists doing now, but what they have done in the past and acknowledge the peers (other artists) that started during the same time. A good example would be Epik High. Epik High didn’t just recently do something; they’ve beendoing things and they’ve been making music that’s hot fire for a damn long time.
If people like the K-Pop of today, they need to realize that the K-Pop of today isn’t the only K-Pop that ever existed.
People should listen to the artists and musicians that preceded current artists, as they are the influences that have encouraged current groups to even think of getting into music. Every band, duo, group, solo artist, etc. wants to go into the music industry for a reason and they definitely have artists who have influenced them. This means people need to wake the hell up and realize that every artist started from somewhere.
