apvrodite:

Guys, this is Gabe. I’ve posted a lot about him on here, search the tags on my blog for him and his sibling Clark. Right now, he’s got stones in his bladder - he’s had a problem with peeing blood so much that I had to take him to the vet. I am so close to being able to pay for the surgery he needs, as well as the special diet food, but I need help. All of my savings have gone into this.

I hate to ask this but it’s not going to benefit me. It will benefit Gabe. If anyone can do anything to help, please donate some money to my paypal (it’s connected to witchywho@outlook.com) please. Even a dollar can help.

Thank you so much for reading. I’ll be posting updates about Gabe.

What is involved in making your stickers and what sticker paper do you use?

1. Drawing!

Draw the thing at a reasonable resolution! I usually make an 8” x 10.5” canvas at 300 dpi, and size the drawing according to approximately how big I expect the final sticker to be. When in doubt, draw larger than necessary. It’s easy to size something down, but not to size something up.

2. Formatting!

I flatten the sticker image and put a border and guide line around it using a few layer styles, then try and cram as many stickers as possible onto a page. This is also when I decide how big the final sticker will be, and resize accordingly.

3. Printing!

My preferred paper is the Office Max brand full sheet labels, but they are SUPER expensive - something like $17 for ten labels or something? They’re semi glossy, smooth and very attractive, but potentially not worth the up front investment, especially if you’re (like me) getting hundreds of pages at once.

This round I switched to Avery full sheet labels! Much cheaper, around $40 for 100 labels. They’re matte and a little less pretty, but they get the job done.

I don’t have a quality color printer at home, so I usually go to a printing place (Staples, Fedex Office, Office Max, etc) and get them done.

4. Cutting!

For any inner cutouts, I use an Xacto knife. Otherwise it’s just scissors!

Then I peddle them to unsuspecting congoers. B) The end!

when people try to talk about how honey is supposedly unethical because we’re stealing the bees’ food I’m just like, genuinely curious if you’re aware that the honey we eat is the result of beekeepers raising colonies and harvesting the excess honey while making sure the bees are all good and fine, and that the honey you buy at the store is from a farm and not just like going into the woods and sticking your hand in a beehive like a bear in a cartoon and stealing the wild bees’ honey

look…………….. write as much shitty fic as you want. nobody can stop you. you’re learning constantly and it’s better to write hackneyed implausible ridiculousness than it is to not write at all out of fear of fucking up. you’re good

There was an experiment a professor did. I think it was pottery students. He did an experiment of “quality” vs “quantity”. One half of the class he told; you have to make as many pots as possible. Good pots, bad pots, shitty pots, whatever. The more pots you make, the higher your grade.

The other half of the class were told, “you can make only one pot”. But that pot had to be perfect. The quality had to be high; the highest quality pot would get the best mark.

But when it came to the grading, they noticed something weird.

All the best quality pots were in the ‘quantity’ group.

The guys who were literally churning out pots, trying to make as many as possible, not concentrating on the quality. But every pot they made, made them better at making pots. By the end of the month (I think it was a month) - they had some pretty awesome pots coming out, because they enjoying finding all the ways and all the things they could do to make all their pots. Where as the ‘quality’ guys had spent their time reading up on pots, and technique, and researching and planning; which was all great but they’d had no further practice at actually making pots.

The best way to get really good at something, the only way to be really good at something, is to make lots of shitty attempts at that thing several of which will fail. If all you create are perfect things then you won’t improve, because how can you improve on perfect?

tl:dr MAKE YOUR SHITTY POTS.

AMEN this goes for anything too!!! drawing, painting, sewing, knitting you name it. Its so much better to just do the thing your working on, shitty or not it takes less of a toll on you to just finish a thing than to worry about fucking it up first time.

EVERYBODY MAKE YOUR POTS!

Knit all the things. Crochet all the things. Cross stitch all the things. Embroider all the things.

Sew as many skirts with pockets as you can because eventually you’ll have so many skirts with pockets you’ll have to start selling them because you love making the.

Some of the most important advice you will ever read, whether you’re a visual artist, a crafter, a writer, a programmer, a teacher, a cook…

No matter what you make, make.
