I think a lot of people have trouble understanding transgender issues because they try to see themselves as trans, but come at it from the wrong direction. i.e. a cis woman tries to understand transness by going, “what if I felt like/wanted to be a man” when she should be approaching it as “what if I, a woman, was so easily mistaken for a man that I had to pretend to be one”,
And I think this is something to keep in mind and to explain away when trying to get these matters across to people who’re new to the idea.
i genuinely never thought of it that way but dang this makes a ton of sense now

Why do people in this fandom screen capture problematic posts and post it individually if you know the trouble it’s going to bring to the OP, even after they apologize? I’ve seen a screen capture of the MK is queer post on my dash so many times reblogged by non fandom blogs and it has over 20K notes. People are contacting the OP and insisting that they kill themselves. Is this what you all wanted?
This site’s obsession with calling people out is alarming since everyone is so hellbent on dehumanizing the person who made a mistake and has apologized for it.
You need to educate people, not harass them because nobody is going to take you all seriously when you all act like an angry mob 99% of the time.
I wasn’t going to weigh in on this publicly, but it’s gotten so insane that I guess I should. I was approached by this individual (the target of the “call out” - turns out she is a follower of mine) and have basically been counseling her all day long because she is scared and humiliated and doesn’t know what to do now. I’ve explained in detail all the ways in which she was wrong and needs to hold herself accountable. I’ve offered strategies for engaging more productively with fandom. She appears contrite and willing to learn.
The “punishment” has lost all sense of proportion to the offense actually committed. It is accomplishing absolutely nothing. Continuing to harass this person directs attention away from the actual problem and onto the cruelty of the people who are harassing her. This perpetuates a feeling of martyrdom and won’t actually lead to any positive change, either in this individual or in the fandom writ large.
Find a new hobby other than pounding on people who aren’t in your weight class.
