fozmeadows:

half the fun of cat ownership is the random scavenger hunts, like, where is my small friend sleeping today? are you in the laundry basket? are you under the bed? have you curled up behind the shelf or on top of a cupboard or crept into a shopping bag? have you discovered a secret portal to another dimension and gone to have adventures with a tiny mechanical dragon? where are you, cat??

White girl nearly dies from eating ‘spicy’ Doritos.

Oh my god

weak bitch deserved it

LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

Aah tumblr. Such a wonderful site.

So, after doing some research into this I found out a few things.

The chips pictured above are Doritos new Roulette bag. They’re filled with mostly Nacho Cheese flavored chips and a couple ultra-spicy chips. Now, the ultra-spicy chips are coated with flavoring that measures 78,000 on the Scoville Heat Scale. For comparison, the Jalapeño pepper only measures 1000-4000 on it.

The girl pictured above is Beth, a 14 year old girl who has asthma. After eating the chip she began to struggle to breathe and feared she could die if it lead to a full-blown asthma attack. Then just a week later she had a asthma attack at school which she believes was linked to her eating the chip.

“I couldn’t stop crying. It was the worst attack I’ve ever had. It was terrifying.” - Beth

It’s sad to see a post with so many people laughing at a girl with breathing problems who legitimately thought she might die.

I usually wouldn’t do a long debunking type post like this, but my brother has asthma so seeing this pissed me off on a whole other level.

So usually our community gets the occasional: “Hey guys I’m visiting from so and so! What are some cool Lolita  Fashion related things to do in New York?”

Well here is your up to date guide on really fun and cool places to stop by when you’re feeling frilly!

GOOD MORNING~!

Welcome to the city that never sleeps. So why were you asleep? Get your butt out of bed and get ready we all know it could take you up to an hour to get your bloomers on. Keep in mind that all of this traveling will rack up on on your metrocard. Sadly NY doesn’t do unlimited dailies anymore so I’ll try to be mindful with places that are within walking distance!

First Stop! Breakfast!

Alice’s Tea Cup is a whimsical little tea house on the upper east side of the city. It features teas and food inspired (more so named after) themes from you guessed it Alice in Wonderland. There are 3 chapters around the city but I believe that chapter 2 has a cuter setting. Especially upstairs near the windows! They are very sweet to those of us who love dressing up so thats always a plus.

Some of my personal favorite menu options include the Mad Hatter Tea set (For 2, unless you’re by yourself then go with the Nibble!) and Alice’s scones which is just a tea and scone set. The best teas in my opinion are Alice’s Tea and the Birthday Tea. With my FAVORITE scones being the Pumpkin (so soft and moist UGHHHHH) and the original. You can never go wrong with the original. Favorite sandwiches are “Lapsang souchong smoked chicken breast “ and “Curried chicken salad”, I also hear the smoked salmon is good but alas I can’t eat seafood! For all of my vegetarian girls and guys out there they do have veggie options! Just be sure to thoroughly check the menu.

The middle floor has a selection of hardcover books, guides, cookbooks, just general things. You can find “Fruits” on this floor!

The top floor is filled with all of your weeby needs with an array of manga, DVD’s, CD’s, and toys. There is even a cute cafe called Cafe Zaiya if you wanted to stop by and grab a quick snack or drink. The Matcha frappucino is amazing here!

Eight Turn Crepe

This crepe shop is served japanese style! They have a range of crepes from savory to sweet. And trust me, everything is delicious. I wish I could eat both a savory and sweet but it really fills you. Good luck to those who try to eat both! My favorites are Lychee Valentine and Blueberry Cheesecake!

Hours:
11:00 am - 11:00 pm

OR you can walk straight down to

Laduree Soho

Honestly the service here is nowhere near as perfect as it would be in Paris or Tokyo. So come for the desserts! Don’t stay for dinner. You can even buy some macarons here for later as they have the cutest to go boxes. I love all of the desserts here but the absolute best in my opinion is the St. Honore in Rose.

I do urge everyone not to limit themselves to one dessert. As you can see there are an array of sweets that are not only limited to macarons!

If you do decide to stay for tea I recommend the Marie Antoinette, as well as the Rose Milkshake! One last dessert that almost always makes me melt almost as much as it melts in your mouth is the Tarte Tatin. Oh my god. It is the most decadent and amazing item on this menu. Please stuff your face when you’re here just TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.

Okay non-European tumblr, I’m gonna explain to you why ‘white’ isn’t as simple here as it is in the rest of the world

- Shades of white in Europe range from ‘freshly fallen snow’ to ‘I am frequently mistaken as being from the Middle East’

- White European is a thing. When you fill out a form, under ethnicity, there are several options for white; white British, white European, white other. Because people make that distinction

- There are Europeans who don’t class their ethnicity as their skin colour, but as their nationality. I have family who don’t think of themselves as white, they just think of themselves as Italian and don’t really give much thought to their skin colour

- People here in Britain always question if darker skinned white Europeans are ‘actually white’. I get it a lot myself. My response is always ‘well I’m not anything else, so obviously I must be’

- Despite being white, a lot of Europeans from Italy, Greece, Spain etc, don’t feel white in the traditional sense. We’re not white like white British people. We’re not white like white Americans. We’re our own white. White British is one thing. White Italian is another thing. White Greek is another, etc

- Which is why we have this notion here in Europe of ‘nationality over race’. Being white isn’t as important as where you’re from

- So this really only becomes an issue if you’re an immigrant

- So being white in Europe doesn’t save you from racial discrimination, because sure, you’re technically white, but you’re not white white. Not the right white

- Here in England, Europeans with really blatantly foreign names, such as myself, find it more difficult to get job interviews, because they take one look at our name and don’t bother reading the rest of the CV. A guy I know was actually told by his boss to reduce the pile of CVs he had by ‘chucking away any with a name you can’t fucking pronounce’

- And then even when you do get an interview, half the time you walk into the joint several shades darker than everyone else and feel like you’ve walked into the ‘Swedish supermodel’ clubhouse and you just know you’re not getting hired

This is all basic stuff and it’s very much taken for granted here. Race and ethnicity are not as clear cut, so it can be very confusing for non-Europeans to wrap their heads around. Which is fine. But I implore you to stay in your lane, because when you say things like ‘no white person anywhere in the world ever knows what it’s like to face racial discrimination’, it’s really fucking offensive to all of the European immigrants who are denied jobs, harassed by the police and beaten by racists, because foreign is foreign to these people, and they don’t give a shit if you’re technically white. So when you mean white American, say white American.

This doesn’t just apply to “darker skin” Europeans either (which I’m sure some Americans would argue are POC for some reason or other). Try being slavic in Western Europe. Hell, try being Sinti or Roma in any part of Europe.

Especially in the UK you can be as white as you like but if you aren’t from Britain (or in some cases just England) then you face discrimination. It really isn’t that clear cut in Europe and it drives me mad when people say white people can’t experience racism because that’s such a US-centric idea.

And if you’re from anywhere in South-East Europe then you should prepare for your country to be slandered in every UK paper. Seriously, you can’t turn on the news, go on the internet, read a newspaper, without being told how Romanian, Ukrainian, Polish people are a drain on the UK’s resources and they should be banned from the country. And guess what?

(That’s Mila Kunis. She was born in the Ukraine.)

(Sebastian Stan. From Constanta, Romania.)

(Mia Wasikowska, from Poland)

(Nina Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria.)

They are white! Just because they are white, it doesn’t mean people from their countries cannot face horrible discrimination, and it doesn’t mean that they can’t be constantly told that they don’t work as hard as people from Western Europe, and that they don’t deserve basic human rights.

So just before you force your ignorance onto people who don’t hold the same views as you due to where they live operating in a different way, just remember that not everybody lives in America.

Alright European Tumblr, let me explain to you how you messed this one up in no uncertain terms and this actually WASN’T your lane (and hey, the Rroma and Sinti aren’t “White” or “Different-White” period in this discussion so let’s move on). It seems you are small and young and don’t know much so maybe realize that you didn’t know but now these are things you should know:

tl;dr xenophobia. That’s the word you want.

how about instead try not being an arrogant, US-centric, pigshit ignorant spoiled brat who shouts down people who are trying to talk about racist discrimination they face because “OMFG HOW DARE U HAVE EXPERIENCES THAT DON’T PERFECTLY FIT THE IDEOLOGICAL PARADIGM FOR MY COUNTRY.” Slavs, Eastern, Cebtral, and Southern Europeans, Jewish people, and Roma all face racist discrimination and stereotypes

how about instead you just, as tumblr LOVES to tell people to do, “shut up and listen” when people are trying to talk about discrimination they face, instead of throwing a tantrum like a spoiled brat because for once you’re being asked to consider other people’s viewpoints

maybe for once you could try not acting out the stereotype of the idiot ugly american who freaks the fuck out when other people dare to have different cultures and experiences.

I know being from the US means you get the privilege of having your national values and viewpoints constantly catered to everywhere, to the point where you apparently can’t fucking fathom that other countries do things differently or that racism can work one way here and another way there, but try, just for once try to get your head out of your ass and follow your own actuhvist advice about listening to people who are already getting shafted by society, instead of jumping in to screechily “tone police” them
